Continental jet 516 took off today in Houston, of it’s two engines one of them was powered by a new 50/50 blend of Bio and Traditional Fuel. This marks the beginning of what could be a radical change in the way Airplanes fly. As Reported in Scientific American the fuel has a better freezing point, weighs less and burns just as effectively. Better yet it is being produced from Algae which means that we aren’t taking corn out of the mouths of starving people to power our luxury.
The refiners, UOP, a division of Honeywell, hope to have 300 barrels of oil from algae grown in brackish ponds at its test facility in Las Cruces, N.M. 2011 and 10,000 barrels a day in five years
